About The Anathalaya

The Anathalaya is situated on the Narayana Shastri Road, in the heart of the city of Mysore is a well-established free boarding and lodging facility for the brahmin community students. This is a 135 years old institution established by the Grand Old Man of Mysuru Vriddapitamaha Dayasagara M Venkatakrishnaiah and popularly known as Mysuru Thatayya, who was a philanthropist, a journalist, an educationist, a people’s representative in the erstwhile Mysuru state self-governance council and above all a social reformer for emancipation of Women through vocational training. The Institution is run by Donations from the philanthropists as well as from the Ex-inmates of the Anathalaya. Financially the institute is self-sustaining to provide excellent basic amenities to the students.
Our Boys students’ hostel is located in the heart of the city on N S Road just opposite to Sri Raghavendra swamy Mutt. It has clean and well-constructed rooms on sharing basis with hot water supply for taking bath and hygienic food cooked by Brahmins in our own premises. There is provision of three times meal in the form of Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The boys are given milk in the morning as well as in the evening for the purpose of keeping up their health. There is a Group health insurance scheme to take care of minor illness of the students too.
It may be pertinent to mention here that Brahminical Samskara is encouraged by mandatory performance of Sandhyavandana. Students do participate in regular poojas on the festival days. It is compulsory for them to attend yoga classes. Personality development is taken care by making the students participate in debates/quiz competition/essay writing competition etc… Our students have excelled in studies and many are study in Engineering colleges as well as pursuing post Graduate courses. Many of our students have won laurels at the State level and some of the students who qualified for project presentations have participated outside the country and they have been helped by our institution.
The entry level is 1stPre-University and seeking admission for students in professional / post Graduate courses is under strict conditions.

Vruddhapitamaha, Dayasagara Sri M. Venkatakrishnaiah popularly known as the “Grand Old Man of Mysore” filled many high roles as educationist, social reformer, rationalist, civil servant, Philanthropist and litterateur and so on. Rightly, he is known as a Grand old man and his contribution to the awakening of independence and freedom among the people of old Mysore state was the most significant. He was a legend not only in his time but continues to be so even now. His contribution to Journalism as well as several spheres of national work were of an exemplary nature. His position in the public life of Mysore was a pre-eminent one. He was loved & respected not only by the people of Mysore, but by the men in authority also during his life time. Sri M. Venkata Krishnaiah was known as Dayasagara, the very Ocean of kindness. He was full of the milk of human kindness & started Anathalaya, which housed & continues to house hundreds of students. Read More>>
